Shhhh... Don't Tell Markos (This is a diary about him at Northwestern)

Wed Apr 09, 2008 at 01:18:06 PM PDT

Last night, I saw Markos Moulitsas at Northwestern University.  I left work right on time, and barely made the train out of the Route 59 station - once I made it to Union Station, I walked north through the rain to the Ogilvie Station, and took a train north to Central Street in Evanston - caught the 201 bus, which took me to within a couple of blocks of the Tech Center at Northwestern.

That was actually the easy part...  Once I was in the Tech Center, I knew that the place where a bunch of people seemed to be practicing a dance or something was not where I was supposed to be, and I walked throughout the building.

I finally made it back near the dancers where I learned... Um, yeah.  That's where I wanted to be.  (A sign somewhere - anywhere! - would have helped.)

Photos and video over the jump.  (Click on the photo to see a larger image.)

The guy who told me I had the right location gave me a ticket:

The first speaker read a disclaimer and warning from the University (it basically said "free speech is good, let him talk")

And the second, the president of College Democrats, introduced Markos.

The crowd wasn't huge, but it was appreciative.  (There is at least one Kossack in this photo - if they want to introduce themselves, they can do that in comments & I can update the diary... but I'm not "outing" them without their ok.)

I'm including this photo because I don't have many where he has his mouth closed.  (HEY!  He was giving a SPEECH!)

He seemed to enjoy himself, but I did laugh at this photo - he reminds me of Jon Lovitz talking about his wife, Morgan Fairchild (yeah, that's the ticket!) - something about the eyebrow!

After his speech & Q&A, he talked to people one on one, while a lot of people waited for that opportunity.

Fortunately, I got my photo with him before the speech (and he said I had to be in it with him, those are "the rules" - so much for Crashing the Gate :P - and now I wish I had one from YearlyKos, so I could have a comparison on my weight loss journey)

We did talk a little about YearlyKos and about Netroots Nation.  And he graciously pretended like he recognized the name "sheddhead."  (Yeah, I bought it. :) )

Anyway, here's the deal on the videos - I held my camera by hand, so sorry about any poor quality.  I did my best, but I did find I had to breathe from time to time.  I uploaded the video of the speech as one 22 minute long video.  I taped each question and reply separately.

I started to upload those as "video replies," but that takes a flipping long time.  So, I'm doing a mass upload of the remaining questions and answers now, and will add them to the comments if people are interested, as they become available.

And here, "live" from Evanston Illinois, is Markos Moulitsas:

And that is followed by the first question and answer about reining in traditional media:

And here is Question 2, about Impeachment and holding a Democratic President accountable:

Here is the video for Question 3, which was about Traditional Media and the perceptions of viewers

And here is Question 4, which started out about Jerome Armstrong, and then moved onto Michigan and Florida Delegates

And now here's Question 5, which is about Vote Rigging (in the past), and Paper Trails and lines for voting.

Question 6 was about whether Gerrymandering is part of what we should do as winners:

Last update - Question 7 was about rating the Democratic Congress.

And as I said, the final Question (number 8) uploaded first in the bulk upload.  So, as question 3 uploads, I will post the processed video for Question 8 on Net Neutrality.

It was cool finally getting to meet Markos in person, and to talk to him a bit.

Damn.  I forgot to say thank you.

Markos?  This is sheddhead (you know, the diarist you "knew" last night.)  Thank you for DailyKos & for letting me be here!
