In Cliff Schecter's "The Real McCain," there is a well-documented story about John McCain losing his temper in a way guaranteed to further alienate the female electorate.
I could tell you about it, but I think these guys do a heck of a job...h/t Firedoglake. (WARNING: WAAAAAY not safe for work, there's a censored version in theresmoreville).
Hilariously, if you go to the youtube page, there's (usually) a McCain ad that pops up right next to it. Way to go, McCain camp targeted marketing geniuses!
digg it here. (It's already nearing the top of the Digg rating list for today, let's help it along).
Sen. Larry Craig will file court documents Monday asking to withdraw his guilty plea in a sex sting that seems likely to end his career, his attorney said.
Oh, Paul. It's not enough to help launch The War. It's not enough to further fuck up the World Bank during your tenure. It's not enough to leave in disgrace. You've got to make a fast buck, too.
Before you say "how dare you calculate political fortunes based on personal tragedy?" Wait...that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying:
We can, as observers of "horse race" politics and the nuts-and-bolts of how Progressives get elected begin to calculate what the reaction will be to the Edwards family announcement.
I'm saying: "let's calculate political fortunes based on a candidate's reaction to personal tragedy." It may be morbid and icky, but it's necessary...
Tony Snow sweated, stammered, and looked more uncomfortable today than I have ever seen him. But I think he won big in reframing the argument at hand. In seeming desperation he asked "what is so important about having a transcript?"
But they know there will be a transcript. What they are doing, successfully, is keeping the argument from engaging Rove's worst case scenario: having Harriet and Karl appear on camera. That, as planned, is not even part of the discussion...
"the1bostongirl" has been my net "handle" for several years. When I began I was undeniably a "girl." (Anyone who calls themselves a "woman" at 17 is kidding themselves). I'm now 24, and I'm OK with still being called a "girl."
I'm a little tired of hearing about his personal life (compelling), his family life (warm, intimate, sincere), and his personality (benign). I grant all of these things.
But in all these fawning news stories about this historical figure, why do we hear none of his history? I realize there is a mourning period, and his friends and family are welcome to it. The rest of us who have to live with his legacy should freely debate it.
And his legacy is a disaster. It has led directly to the situation we are in right now.
Don't believe me? Look it up on a completely sympathetic site. Oh, I don't know, how about: http://www.whitehouse.gov/...
Why don't Progressives stand up for Kofi Annan and the United Nations? It's clearly part of the Neocon agenda to degrade the influence of this--while perhaps flawed--essential and peace-promoting institution. Aren't the UN's values Our values?
Kofi Annan and the UN have long been the punching bag of Bush, Bolton, Cheney, and Rumsfeld. While We have been aggressive in our defense of domestic institutions (such as Social Security) under attack by Neocon "reforms," why do We allow this assault to continue without comment?
